Oishi anniversary
Happy anniversary, to us. 3 years, officially, a decade unofficially. We celebrated early, with sushi madness at Oishi in Sudbury. If you haven't been privy to Josh's highly detailed account of exactly what we ate, here is a sampling: the torched toro roll, topped with waffer-thin slices of chili pepper in a mound of fancy mayo. Yum.
Too bad we didn't think to use this as a cake topper.
(yes, this photo has issues - it was dark)

Evil Cat
She's normally a sweet creature, but has lately taken to disappearing at night to prowl outdoors in the dark hours. Then, promptly at the crack of dawn - 5:30 sharp, she howls directly below the open bedroom window. Hence my calling her evil - this week.

Paint Me
The sorry state of our front steps' paint. It's impressive how easy it is to ignore stuff like this when you see it every day. I'd should probably be more embarrassed - rather than posting this pic! - except that I like the way the textures looks up close. Then again, this was mid-scraping, when paint tends to look its worst.

Test Drive
This is my boring camera-geek post. Apologies, I've spent the last 2 days reading about digital SLR cameras, in preparation to buy one (yay!!!). Yes, I've decided that it's time to upgrade from a point and shoot digital camera. I miss the contol I had with various old film SLR's, but don't want to deal with film or chemicals anymore either. Digital SLRs have gotten into a semi-reasonable price range finally, so I'm getting ready to take that plunge.
Josh's co-worker was kind enough to let me take his Canon Rebel XT for a test drive. Just for fun, with some mini glass vases on my kitchen windowsill, I've pitted it in an unfair and unscientific battle against my 3-year-old point and shoot, the Canon Powershot s30.
This first pic is about good/close as I can get with the Powershot:

Library Stairs
I love the library, conceptually and physically. Of course, there are the free books - lots of them. But, I also am drawn to the building itself, of mine in Arlington. Well, ignoring it's annoying unnavigable parking lot. This was from the stairwell in the new wing, looking down over the old exterior wall, where the addition was attached.

Cherries
Something I eat. A lot of, this time of year . If you're reading this, you probably know about my seasonal addiction. Alas, my tastebuds are sad that it's already August, but I think my intestines are looking forward to the repreive. :)
Anyhow...the last few days of my life have been pretty boring. I thought this would be more appealing than a shot of Josh and me cleaning out the basement, no?

Damariscotta Lake, Maine
4 days in Maine, 4 pictures. Spent last weekend + some in a fantastic lake house with Josh's family. Fantastic light in the afternoon, looking out over the daylilies to the lake...
Justin...reading and in the water (photo credit, Josh). What a nut.
...and, inside at the mason jar filled with lobster crackers and other related surgical implements...
...to eat these guys, once their done with the business of racing. I know, we're terrible, cruel people... That's Sydney and Sarah, my nieces, with their mom, Jennifer.
