It's been a fairly uneventful early January. Well, other than the oil drilling in the basement that I'm opting not to publicize here as a matter of self-preservation (I can send pics separately if anyone is interested - email me). That, combined with technical difficulties and a cold have kept me offline for a while. Since nothing is new, here's something odd, in the category of "things you just don't see very often": Jewish graffiti.
This was in the warehouse district in Orlando, while searching for citrus. Strange, no?

Buffet Still Lives
I found out on Saturday that the old Weylu's palace on Rt. 1 has been reopen for business for a couple of years, so had to drop what I was doing and drag some people there immediately (thanks, compadres). Still just as crazy inside as I remember if from the late 80s, though now with an expansive (and expensive) buffet option, containing abalone mushroom stir fry to...what Chinese food starts with a Z? well, if it exists, it probably was there. My advice: go for lunch (half the price) and skip the ginseng soup.
One of those things is not like the others...just because there's no such thing as too much sushi.

Fruity drinks and Fiestaware
Even in Orlando, an outdoor seat for lunch was to be found, with colorful fruity drinks and almost-matching Fiestaware plates.
Orange groves were more problematic. They've all but disappeared - as proven by a very long, fruitless hunt (get it? fruitless??) - since I first was there in March of 1999, when they were in full bloom and almost too fragrant. So sad.

The 2007 New Year's Miracle
Happy 2007.
We spent an extended weekend in Orlando, FL - which is as weird a place as ever, but beautifully pleasant in December, especially with a free place to stay. A wild night of partying it was not, considering we're verging on crotchety, though we did consume a respectable number of pina coladas and mojitos, and blew up a few small, festive explosives in the driveway.
The "miracle" of the evening occurred when we discovered at 11:53 that the TV had no reception, till Jeremy jiggered 2 unrelated cables and held them painfully together, by 11:58, so we could see the ball and know exactly when 2006 came to its ugly end. Yay!
