Hibiscus

It's been one of those exhausting weekends with bad nap timing. I got just about nothing done other than a couple loads of laundry, but watched Zach practice his new skill of walking, including taking on the stairs (up only). And, we think, talk. Couple words and they're not overly coherent, like "ey ey" accompanied by waving in response to bye bye from us, or "gah" when he sees the cats around the house.

Anyhow, I had this picture kicking around from San Antonio (and only a hundred or so new ones since then). Maybe later this week I'll find a new one of Zach.

Sledding with Lilia

We finally got Zach outside in the snow today, after Jeremy and Sharona invited Zach to keep Lilia company on her sled.

All was well.

Except that he fell asleep in Lilia's lap. And Lilia started crying so her parents ended up carrying her for the next half hour, while Zach napped in the snow.

Presents!

Well, wrapping paper - which is much more interesting when you're sub-1 anyway. Other than that, Zach's favorite present of the season might just have been that tube of sweet potato puffs, available for under $3 at your local grocery store (thanks, Aunt Jenni!)

Gingerbread

Jennifer was kind enough to invite us to join her, Sydney and Sarah to make gingerbread houses on the 26th.

And, since Josh and I had taken a 2-year break from pumpkin carving, it was nice to have an opportunity for a joint craft project. No plastic knives covered in frosting were hurled in the process, so we call it a success. Josh handled structure (note the L-shaped layout) while I took on exterior decoration and was entertained for longer even than Sydney by the project.

As a bonus, we discovered a) that Zach enjoys graham crackers, and b) that raisins that pass through an infant's digestive system emerge very plump - as when cooked into oatmeal.

We have been fighting a nasty series of (computer) viruses that prevented me from accessing my photos for a few weeks. Josh finally conquered that, and I now back have a heap of pictures. So, we'll start in Virginia,with Jeni. Eagerly awaiting presents, and then channelling Tina Turner.
