Peabody Essex Museum

Took a tour yesterday of the Peabody Essex Museum and their Indian culture event. Zach's favorite was peering down from the glass overhang on the mezzanine down to the drummers and people below.


And learning about sand painting. Well, when we first walked by, this was a much more organized affair, but later when the sand was mixed together by other little kids to more or less a uniform glittery brown, I figured it was safe to let a 14-month-old check it out up close.

24 hours later I was still finding glitter in his diapers.

Housekeeping?

Zach has a new interest in the broom. Unfortunately for me, if I have the broom out, it's because the floor is really dirty (or, say, I've just dumped over a tub of rice), so having a toddler chasing me around and whining because he isn't being allowed to use that broom himself is actually kind of annoying.

Explaining the camera

Zach has begun to discover that the camera is not just a large object that mom walks around with on Saturday mornings, but a fascinating thing with buttons and a preview screen that makes him giggle when it displays pictures of him and his buddies.

So, I attempt to explain about the self-portrait shot over the coffee table.


And give him a chance to try the button himself.

Ducks

Baby likes his ducks and his bubble bath. The ducks don't seem to mind either.

Spring fever

Soon. In the meantime, we can buy it in small doses at the grocery store.

Swing

This has kind of been the theme of the last couple of weekends, when the weather warmed up enough to venture outside. Zach cries briefly when swing time is over, but being able to have him run around without destroying the living room has its pluses.

Asleep over toast

He had been eating brunch, then passed out. Didn't even manage to get the toasted onion stick out of his mouth first.

Family day at the ICA

If you haven't been yet, check out the Shepard Fairey exhibit at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. If you have a kid under 12 you can borrow, you can get in free on Family Day, even, which is the last Saturday of the month I think.

Zach did enjoy some of the exhibits, including a cascade of campfire charcoal and a 5 foot cube of straight pins that supposedly were held together with friction alone (he wanted to touch and confirm), but really his favorite part of the trip was the long hallway with glass overlooking the harbor, where he got to eat goldfish crackers and bang on the glass with Lilia.
