Saturday morning

Friday we snooze way past our alarm clock and Zach sleeps in till 7, so we scramble to get out of the house in half an hour. Saturday he's up at quarter to 6 and bathed by 7. Guess we just can't win.

Skis

Up at to Loon Mountain in NH last weekend, with Josh and Hilary. (We were joined up there by several of Josh's cohorts from high school, who drove many hours through the snow to the granite state).

This picture below reminds me of why I enjoy skiing, even if I only get around to it about once every 6 years these days.

Zach didn't get to ski, but he did get to hang out with Steve and Brenna's kids, including Agathe, who's almost his age. Here they model hats before heading out to dinner.

Tupperware Party

This is from a few months ago. The drawer of containers continues to entertain.

Birthday - 1

Candles and cake, check.

Chopsticks, check.

One full orbit of the planet round the sun, and mysteriously he's now allowed to eat strawberries (as observed by Justin - it is weird, isn't it?).

And some friends to help open a couple presents, while Zach models his new horse towel/cape from Grandma Estee.

(No, we aren't having a bigger birthday party for Zach. We would love to, but we just don't know where we'd put more than about 6 of yinz. Maybe next year...)

Zach's blue eye

Technique notes on this photo:

I was able to get this close and reasonably in-focus by having Zach strapped into his car seat where he couldn't wriggle away. The lighting is the lovely glow of southern Connecticut, as seen driving down the Merrit Parkway somewhere near Bridgeport.

Sleeping Pink Marshmallow

Lilia caught a couple Z's in her pink snowsuit at Rosie's in Inman Sq. while the adults drank tea.

Hibiscus

It's been one of those exhausting weekends with bad nap timing. I got just about nothing done other than a couple loads of laundry, but watched Zach practice his new skill of walking, including taking on the stairs (up only). And, we think, talk. Couple words and they're not overly coherent, like "ey ey" accompanied by waving in response to bye bye from us, or "gah" when he sees the cats around the house.

Anyhow, I had this picture kicking around from San Antonio (and only a hundred or so new ones since then). Maybe later this week I'll find a new one of Zach.

Sledding with Lilia

We finally got Zach outside in the snow today, after Jeremy and Sharona invited Zach to keep Lilia company on her sled.

Here's Josh pulling them through the streets of East Arlington. (My mom took this photo):

All was well.

Except that he fell asleep in Lilia's lap. And Lilia started crying so her parents ended up carrying her for the next half hour, while Zach napped in the snow.
